The University of Ghana’s Health Services Directorate has issued a renewed warning to the university community amid “a recent resurgence in COVID-19 cases, with a few suspected and confirmed cases reported in our immediate vicinity.”
In a statement dated June 23, the Directorate called on all students, staff, and campus visitors to take the situation seriously.
“All staff, students, and visitors are strongly advised to remain vigilant and strictly adhere to the following recommended preventive measures to reduce the risk of infection and community spread,” the notice emphasised.
Among the preventive measures reiterated were: the proper wearing of face masks in crowded or enclosed spaces, frequent handwashing, physical distancing, and the avoidance of unnecessary large gatherings.
“Ensure good ventilation in offices, lecture halls, and meeting rooms,” the statement added, urging the campus community to also stay home and seek medical attention if experiencing any flu-like symptoms.
In response to the cases detected, the Health Services Directorate confirmed that “COVID-19 Response Protocols, including screening and triage measures at health facilities,” have been reactivated.
Officials also assured that the situation is being closely monitored and that updates will be communicated as necessary.
In a concluding note of encouragement and collective responsibility, the Directorate called on the entire community to do their part: “Let us work together to protect ourselves and our community.”
