NTC Opens Registration for 2025 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) 1

The National Teaching Council (NTC) has officially opened registration for the 2025 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) 1, in line with its regulatory mandate under the Education Regulatory Bodies Act 2020 (Act 1023).

This examination ensures that teachers meet the National Teachers’ Standards, which assess their professional knowledge, practices, values, and attitudes needed for effective teaching. Passing the exam grants teachers a professional license to operate in the education sector.

Structure of the 2025 GTLE Examination

Fresh candidates will write three papers:

  • General Professional Knowledge, which covers numeracy, literacy, and essential professional skills.
  • Grade-level Specialism Pedagogy, which is specific to Early Grade, Primary, JHS, SHS, and Technical/Vocational Education.
  • Multiple Subjects Content or Single Subject Content Knowledge, depending on the teacher’s area of specialization.

Candidates specializing in Early Childhood or Primary Education will take a Multiple Subjects Content Paper, while those training for JHS, SHS, or TVET will write a Single Subject Specialism paper in their area of study.

  1. I have a diploma from an early childhood. Can I re-sited for the exams this year

    • Unfortunately, the eligibility criteria for the 2025 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) require candidates to hold either a Bachelor of Education degree or a Postgraduate Diploma in Education. A diploma alone does not meet the current requirements for registration.
