The Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has officially announced that the Government will, in the 2025 calendar year, recruit 50,000 teachers and 10,000 non-teaching staff as part of a broader initiative to strengthen the education sector.
This declaration was made during an address to Parliament on Wednesday, 25th June 2025. The Minister emphasized that adequate provisions have been made in the 2025 national budget to facilitate this large-scale recruitment.
In response to concerns raised by the Minority Leader, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, regarding the alleged manhandling of teachers who recently picketed at the Ghana Education Service (GES) premises, the Minister assured Parliament that those claims had been reviewed and dismissed.
He reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to addressing outstanding posting issues and ensuring the deployment of newly recruited staff to improve educational outcomes across the country.
Hon. Iddrisu provided clarity on the matter by referencing a recent conversation with a stakeholder, Bafour Eric, stating: “This morning, I met with Bafour Eric, and I will soon share the details with the public. We discussed the matter, and he indicated to me that clearance was received in May. They were expected to start work in August but began in September. Naturally, by December 31, the clearance issued by the Finance Ministry had expired, and they can only proceed with a renewed clearance, which is what I am currently awaiting. Let them be assured.”
He concluded his remarks by reaffirming, “Mr. Speaker, as I have assured this House, 50,000 teachers will be recruited, along with 10,000 non-teaching staff. Adequate provision was made for this in the 2025 budget.”
