The Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has assured all newly trained teachers that their outstanding salaries will be paid following the presentation of the Mid-Year Supplementary Budget by the Minister of Finance, Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson.
He disclosed that the process of issuing Staff Identification Cards to the affected teachers has already commenced, which will pave the way for salary disbursement.
This assurance was given on the floor of Parliament in response to a question raised by the Member of Parliament for Komenda/Edina/Eguafo/Abrem, Hon. Samuel Atta-Mills.
Hon. Iddrisu further reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening the education sector, noting that the recruitment of 50,000 teachers and 10,000 non-teaching staff has been captured in the 2025 national budget.
The Minister’s remarks come in the wake of a protest staged on Monday, 23rd June 2025, by a group of newly trained teachers from the 2022 batch of College of Education graduates.
The protest, held at the Ghana Education Service (GES) headquarters in Accra, was in response to delays in the issuance of staff IDs and the non-payment of salaries for nearly ten months.
Addressing additional concerns, Hon. Iddrisu responded to inquiries about the stalled GETFund projects and the STEM school in the Weija-Gbawe Constituency.
He revealed that the Consultant, acting on instructions from the GETFund, has recently submitted cost estimates for the remaining works.
This, he explained, will facilitate the allocation of funds to ensure the timely completion of the projects.
The Ministry remains optimistic that, once funding is secured, the projects will be completed by the end of the year
