The National Teaching Council (NTC) has announced that candidates who fail the final resit of the 2025 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) will be required to restart their training at teacher education institutions beginning in 2026.
That is, any candidate who will not be successful in the 2025 exam will have to start afresh by joining their colleagues in the teacher education institutions for their professional examination in 2026 and beyond.
According to the NTC, the 2025 GTLE marks the final phase of the post-graduation licensure examination, making it the last opportunity for all unlicensed graduates to validate their qualifications before stricter requirements take effect in 2026.
The GTLE 1 registration is open to new candidates and those needing to resit papers, especially those who have completed their national service or are currently serving.
However, after the final resit examination in October 2025, the system will transition entirely to pre-graduation professional licensing for teacher trainees.
According to the NTC, prospective candidates must hold a Bachelor of Education Degree or a Postgraduate Diploma in Education to qualify.
Those with foreign qualifications must provide an evaluation certificate from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) before registering.

ToggleIndexing and Registration Process

Candidates who meet indexing requirements can then proceed to register for the GTLE 1 via https://exams.ntc.gov.gh/ after making payments at Prudential Bank or via mobile money using short code *772*51#.
Registration Deadline
The Registration deadline is July 7, 2025. The NTC has emphasised that no extensions will be granted beyond this date.
Examination Structure
Candidates will take three papers:
- General Professional Knowledge (numeracy, literacy, and essential professional skills)
- Grade-Level Specialism Pedagogy (based on training level: Early Grade, Primary, JHS, SHS, or TVET)
- Multiple or Single Subject Specialism (varies by specialization)
Final Opportunity
The transition to pre-graduation professional licensing in 2026 means that any candidate who fails the October 2025 resit must restart their teacher training from the beginning in 2026.
The 2025 GTLE 1 will be held from July 18 to 20, 2025, and candidates are urged to register before the deadline to avoid missing out.

Is Felix Gyamfi clueless, incompetent or reckless. What kind of unproductive policy is he trying to formulate. He should stop it.
Will the current level 400 or those who will be completing on 2026 write the GTLES?
This means that trainees in school will be writing their GTLE at their respective schools as their final examination before graduation
